2020 smartphone OLED panel shipments are expected to grow by 9%

According to recent data released by market research company Omdia, in 2020, shipments of OLED panels for smartphones are expected to increase by 9% annually to reach 513 million. Despite previous predictions, due to the impact of the new coronavirus pandemic, overall global smartphone shipments will decrease by 13% year-on-year. But Omdia pointed out that Apple is likely to add two OLED models to the iPhone series this year, that is, four new iPhones with OLED screens. At the same time, Chinese smartphone manufacturers will also apply more OLED panels to high-end models. In particular, the demand for flexible OLED panels for mobile phones is expected to increase by 50% year-on-year, while the demand for rigid OLED panels will decline by about 12%. According to statistics, in 2019, about 30% of smartphones have applied OLED panels. Among them, Samsung Display shipments have reached 470 million pieces, with a market share of 86%; followed by China ’s BOE , Hehui Optoelectronics and Visionox. Data show that non-Samsung panel makers shipped 64 million OLED panels for smartphones, an increase of 113% from the same period last year.
